"Use real CD/DVD-ROM" option never appears, even though it is an Administrator ID System crashes when clicking Power On Green Button Initially installed version 1848.2, just tried with build 1970. Same behavior. Anybody seen this?
Making Progress After posting, I read a lot of entries that explain that the retail version I got (directly from apple when I ordered my MBP a couple of weeks ago) doesn't work with the new C2D MBPs. I realized that although I installed the new build, I hadn't deleted the old vm. So I did that (again), and am currently running the express WinXP install, and it is chugging along nicely. I'm guessing I'll need to run the disk utility since I want a permanent fixed-size file. It never prompted for disk space to allocate, so I'm assuming it is dynamic. I highly recommend to everyone that you download the latest build from the site. Your installation key will work with the newly downloaded software. The setup finished, and I'm now installing SP2.
