The software supplied with the new e-ink Sony Reader - "CONNECT Reader" - installs but fails to launch on a Mac Pro. The Windows cursor changes to the hourglass for a brief second then nothing happens.

This is under Parallels builds 1940 and 1966 running on a Mac Pro 3.0 GHz machine with 2.0GB of RAM.

The same software and Windows installation (.pvs / .hdd image copied across) launches just fine on a MacBook, so the problem seems specific to the Mac Pro.

    Any suggestions?

Does the Reader connect to the Macbook? How well (or poorly) does it work?

    Thanks,

Try downloading the official version, build 1970.

    Update on Sony Reader

I couldn't resist the Sony Reader so I purchased it in the hopes that I could run the Sony Connect Software. It works.

I'm running an iMac with 1.5 gigs of Ram and build 1970 of Parallels Desktop. It installed and ran without a hitch. The reader and SD card in the reader were able to receive books and Word files. The store ran fine IE.

While the Sony software is clunky the Reader itself is pretty great. I'm glad that if I have to run Windows every once in a while that Parallels does the job.

Also, for the Record the ActiveSync that goes with the iPaq 2495 also works fine.

I believe each will step down to USB 1.1 which no doubt is why they work.
