I am using Ubuntu Linux with OS X. I have a single button apple mouse. Is there some kind of control-click or equivalent for linux which I can do using the single button mouse and a keyboard key. Alternatively, will a mighty mouse work for Ubuntu? Although I am so used to the single button mouse (have a habit of keeping my hand all over the mouse, I have tried the mighty mouse and keep control clicking accidentally) that I am hesistant to buy a multibutton mouse and would be happy if my single button apple mouse would work..

According to a number of reports on the web, a mighty mouse will work. If your Mac is a MacBook Pro (or a MacBook?), tapping the trackpad with two fingers will also work (it emulates a right-button click) provided you enable the behavior via System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Trackpad > Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click.

Most third-party USB mice will also work (both in Mac OS and in the Ubuntu guest). For example, I'm using a Logitech MX310 mouse, and it works perfectly in all three operating systems (the Mac OS X host and my Ubuntu and Windows XP guests).

install mouseemu, then you can configure it to use ctrl-click for right button and command-click for middle button.
