mouse synchronization - it's not!

Finally got XP to install, after two futile weeks of trying to install Win98 (and WinME), and got my old Micrografx editing program into XP, BUT the mouse pointer squirts around the screen like a little tiny insane dragonfly! I can't do delicate retouches with my brush tools.
There are seven tools in the Parallels Tool menu - mouse synchronization is the ONLY one that is disabled, and the enable box is grey - I can't enable the smooth motion that is supposed to be provided by this tool.
I am literally so fed up with the hassles, that the rest of you seem willing to do battle with, that I'm almost sure I'm going to throw in the towel (and give up on the whole concept of VM). It seems more prudent to finally learn Photoshop (Elelments) tools and just get comfortable with the Mac functions and Adobe interface. (I've only had the little mini for three weeks, so I'm about as new to OS X as you can be.) But if someone can tell me how to fix the pointer jitters I would love to give it one more shot. Thanks very much.

While not technical, this worked for me with an earlier install of Parallels when I had a similar problem. When in Windows, uninstall Parallels tools using the VM dropdown. When complete, close Windows then restart. Install Parallels tools, again using the VM dropdown box and when that is completed, close out of Windows. Finally, restart Windows and, for me at least, everything worked as it should. Give it a try, I don't see that it can hurt anything.

    Glory, halleluja!

It worked perfectly. (if I hadn't been so addled lately, I might have thought of it myself.)

And I seem to have established a proper shared folder, so all systems are go.

By golly - this VM business really DOES work! This is just plain fun - at last!

    Thanks very very much, ajay!
