I've followed the instructions for setting up Parallels to view the CD drive in my Intel iMac. But upon following the steps to install a windows operating system the installer disk is not recognized (or at least no procedure for installation starts).

I've also tried making image disks and going through the same procedure that way ... that also does not work.

Yes, I've followed the instructions in both the Quick Start and the thicker manual explicitly. Tried Windows XP and Windows 2000.

One interesting thing is that when I start Parallels to go the the Virtual Machine the installer disks stop spinning and disappear from the Mac desktop.

    Any ideas?

There is a known issue where some XP install discs are defective shipped from Microsoft.

There are several threads on this already.

Make sure that your VM is set to boot from the cd, make sure there is a hard disk image, make sure the CD is connected...

Also, make sure the CDs you have are in fact bootable. Many older MSDN copies for instance are not bootable.
