I just upgraded to 1940 and in both XP and Vista get a message saying that the current version of Parallels tools ins't compatible yada yada yada... So I reinstalled P Tools from 1940. Works fine under XP but in Vista RC1 PT starts to install but apparently never finishes or at least not completely. My mouse is stuck in the Parallels desktop and doesn't cover the whole screen without Alt Shift to release the mouse. Is this a known problem? Is anyone else experiencing this issue? T.I.A., Peter
Ok, I give up. Mouse sync is definitely broken, for me, in 1940 and Vista RC1. I even tried updating the driver manualy from the device manager. I tried the ol' trick of connecting to the image directly and at least that way the tools install finishes but mouse sync still isn't working no matter what. I've tried removing and reinstalling all the tricks but no joy... The only tools that show upi as being installed are the Time sync and Clipboard sync tools. It doesn't even show the Mouse tools as being installed. This is an unfortunate step backwards for Parallels... Cheers, Peter
Hi Peter, Just to tell you, it works fine on mine. Try deleting the hardware driver on Vista then letting Vista re-discover them. Maybe that will help. Good luck
Um, you're running a non-released operating system on a non-released build of a VM solution. You're expecting everything to be working perfectly?
Did you run the install on Vista in XP sp2 compatibility mode? See: http://forums.parallels.com/thread4451.html
Just a quick FYI on this. Running Vista build 5600 and i had previously had PTools build 1922 installed under compatiblity mode. So i figured what the heck there email anouncing build 1940 said supports so i threw caution to the wind and did a VM/Install Ptools without uninstalling first. Notes. 1. Installed and reboot fine 2. Go Note about Incosistant PTools (so Parallels installs their own incosistant software ;-) 3. Notice my Shared folder Icon is missing. will report back on that
Gee I wasn't aware that Vista and PD were pre-release, oh wow that must be the reason... Gee thanks for clearing that up now I get it! What exactly is your point sport? If you go back and actually read the post what I was pointing out was that we had taken a step backwards in 1940 seeing as how it has worked in previous releases. I've been testing PD since its first alpha release and the same with other guest OSes, I'm prefectly aware that PD and Vista are betas and that things sometimes get broken, I've been in the software development industry for over 25 years. I wasn't complaining merely pointing out that there was an issue and yes I've filed bug reports ettc. So thanks for the enlightenment but frankly your post served absolutely no purpose...
Kosh, Thanks. I uninstalled PRtools and reinstalled in compatability mode and everything works as advertised. I completely missed that post you referenced but thanks. Now all is back to where it shoudl be. Its interesting that with 1928 when I reinstalled PRTools it installed all the drivers and they all worked, now in 1940 the only drivers installed were the clipboard and time sync tools until I installed in compatability mode. Thanks again, Peter
Bummer... I spoke too soon. Now that PRTools is installed and working I have lost the ability to browse my local network. The PRTools Shared Folders are working so I know there is connectivity and I can get to the folders I share but I can't map network drives through explorer anymore. Before I was able to browse my local network and the host machine, map network drives from any source but now Shared Folders functionality seems to have taken control of that ability. I'm wondering if that's a by product of PRTools beiong installed in compatability mode of something else. Oh well... Peter
Double click on the "Parallels Tools Center" icon in the tray. Is the network adapter in the list of installed tools? It's not there in my Parallels 1940 / Vista RC1 VM. All of the other tools are there. It was there with the Parallels 1922 install so something has changed between 1922 and 1940. The Parallels Tools install was done in XP SP2 compatability mode in both cases.
Murphy, Thanks I'll reinstll the PRTools and double check. The strange thing is that networking, at least Internet networking, seems to be running and I can ping the addresses that i want to connect to manually but not through explorer. Something very funky changed betwen 1928 and 1940. Hopefully PD will get it together again.... Thanks, Peter
I noticed in RC2 Windows Defender wanted me to APPLY CHANGES that were made by Parallels Tools Installer. Not sure if this makes a difference but look for the grey brick wall in the bottom right of your taskbar.
