Hi, does anyone know if RAM is only used when parallels desktop is active, or is the RAM sorta set aside and is not available for normal usage even when parallels desktop is not on?

    thanks

It is just like every other program outt there in respect for RAM. It only uses it when running...

That being said, the "hypervisor" is resident in RAM at all times, but I think it only uses about a megabyte or so.

If you want to watch RAM consumption live, fire up Activity Monitor, and select the "System Memory" tab. Parallels consumes some when initially launched, then more (obviously) when a VM is started.
