    Hi everyone,

I downloaded the RC2 trial yesterday. Following the user guide closely, I attempted to install xp on my new imac core 2 duo, which was purchased on thursday.

The trial version indicates build 1822, June 6th. And my experiences (kernel panic) leads me to believe there are newer builds offering support for these new 64 bit chips - at least browsing the forum I see indication of newer builds and presume this is one of the issues Im facing.

What happens, is that upon doing the basic setup in the resources window, making provisions for vm drive, and so forth, upon hitting "start" the machine experiences a hard crash, the type that displays the equivalent of the evil windows blue screen of death - "You must hold down the power button yadda yadda).

I have sufficient memory in the machine - windows isn't installed yet - I am guessing this is because the build I downloaded yesterday directly from Parallels site doesn't support this new imac.

Does one have to speak the secret words, etc, or purchase this before you can get a build that supports the newer machines, e.g., imac core 2 duo and mac pro?

Of course, it could be a newbie mistake - but I have experience setting up vm on the windows/linux side.

My primary goal here is to see if I could run solidworks and rhino (and if these run well, some misc windows programs).

I am a little curious to see if the 2 gb limit that seems to be imposed on the new imac (why????? Apple...grrrrrrrrr) will make this problematic. I would so love to get rid of the two pc's I use for these tasks. Here's hoping...

    Shelley,

    Try this link: http://www.parallels.com/en/download/desktop/update/

That should download build 1922 (RC2) September 28

    Kosh,

    Thanks for the link!

I suspect this is the issue - since I've read about others who initially met with failure when these (and the mac pros) first came out using the older builds.

Parallels might want to put some kind of alert - otherwise owners of new machines might give up more easily than I (finding the forum was a bit of a trick! ).

You're welcome! :) Regarding the alert, well, they sort of do, in the sense that they do have this on the Desktop for Mac product page (along with a link to the 1922 build download page):
I do agree about finding the forum. I first ran across it via Google and then later on tried then to hunt for it via the Parallels website, and still don't think that I've found the "official" way to get here.

Hmmm....This is what I downloaded (build 1848) - its for one of our machines at work - I will have to wait till monday - but I know that when went to the 'about' it said (or I recall) build 1822 - june 6th). Im very sure about the date - it struck me that since this was much earlier than the two new machines - I wondered if there was another later build.

I do not see the 1922 build link on the normal trial download. If you could kindly point me to this, I will be very obliged, and likely to sing your name out in praise :)

Perhaps my problem isn't the build (if indeed I used 1848) - and I will have to start trying to figure out what else may have gone astray....
