I tried installing parallels desktop + windows xp on a new 24 inch imac. At the point at which I am supposed to select the cd/dvd from the devices menu, all selections are greyed out. If I nevertheless try to proceed to start the VM, my mac crashes. Does parallels work on 24 in imac? A quick look at the forum shows that similar problems show up with mac pro.
Same thing here. I get a transparent blacked out screen with a system restart as the only option. This comes after entering my activation number which it says it accepted. I installed PMD from the CD using their supplied serial number.
Have you tried the latest release? http://www.parallels.com/en/download/desktop/update/ I donno what version is shipping on their CD's but considering they have a new release once a week or so it has got to be an older version. If you have a Core2 iMac then you definately need the new version.
Mine is closer to working now with 1922. At least is will read my WinXP installer disk. Now if I can get past it needed me to type F8 to accept the EULA I may get it insttalled. Update -- got past that (the F8 key) and XP is installing. I first had to go into system preferences/keyboard & mouse/keyboard shortcuts to change the F8 assignment going to Dashboard. After that I found that I still had F8 assigned to Yahoo Widgets (Konfabulator). Once I deleted that assignment PDM accepted the F8 key entry for the EULA. This is almost as much fun as VPC 3-7 had been. ;-)
problem resolved I am the originator of this thread. I solved my problem (so far) by downloading a recent build from versiontracker. I certainly wouldn't have found my way to a recent build by looking around the parallels website, unless I knew where to go! To those who replied with helpful suggestions, many thanks!
