I have a new iMAC. Connecting USB devices to the Windows XP VM has been a real disappointment with Parallels so far. I have tried three USB devices; Garmin Street Pilot, JVC Camcorder, Cannon Powershot Digital Camera and none of them are detected by the Windows VM in Parallels. The Camcorder when you disconnect gives a Windows notice that the device was disconnected improperly and you may have lost data, but none are recognized when you connect them. Device manager says the USB Hub and USB root are working fine but shows no devices connected. I tried using the USB port on the keyboard and the one on the computer back...same result on all. I have an Epson Printer and it is working via the network as a shared printer connected to a PC via parallel cable. I wonder if anyone has conncted USB printer direct to iMac and able to priint from WIndows VM in Parallels.
Got Active Home to Work, and Camcorder I guess it was stupid me, I expected the USB device to pop up in the task bar and be automatically detected. I found that I had to go to the Parallels Device Menu and to USB and found my devices without check marks. After I checked them they came up and all was ok. I'll work on the others tomorrow!
Garmin Street Pilot 2610 Garmin Street Pilot is running fine under Parallels after fooling around with it or three days. Key was not to work in full screen so you can see the Parallels "Device" menu. After turning on the Street Pilot the Device menu under USB shows a "Vendor specific" item followed with a computer address. After you put a check mark by it you get the beep and windows sees it and identifys it as a Garmin. I then ran and installed mapsource etc. I have transferred data to and from the Garmin unit with no difficulty.
