Not with Parallels. You need Boot Camp for Direct 3D games. Parallels have said they are investigating options to provide 3D support, but I wouldn't expect it in the near term.

    I see

Thanks. That's disapointing because that's the primary reason I bought Parallels and the only thing really lacking in the mac world is game programing IMHO.

Disappointing .. yes .. if you're a gamer. Only thing missing in the mac world? Not even close. Mac is so lacking in business productivity apps, particularly for custom industry specific apps, it's not funny. And for that as well as for simultaneous development on multiple platforms, Parallels is totally awesome. The 2 things Parallels doesn't do really well right now are 3D graphics and USB. USB is getting better and better. 3D may come with time. Your best bet for games may ultimately be CrossOver Mac when it's released.

According to Parallels' blog, 3d support is coming:

    http://parallelsvirtualization.blogspot.com/ (look at August 14th):

So, in light of these major announcements, we felt obligated to respond. First, as I mentioned earlier, we released a great beta update that is FREE to all users (and to non-users who want to take it for a test-drive). Second, we gave a bit of insight into our plans for the next version of Desktop. The next version, due to hit beta by year's end, will include:
A groundbreaking new user interface that will make running Windows on a Mac easier and more productive than ever before?.
Never before seen security and management tools?
Capability to burn CDs and DVDs inside virtual machines?
Fast 3D graphics support? via support for OpenGL and DirectX. You'll be able to run games at full speed without leaving your OS X desktop!
An ACPI BIOS that provides the ability to run Microsoft Windows Vista
NOTE: For our Windows customers, Vista will be supported as a primary OS as well as a guest
More cool stuff that I can't tell you about right now. :)
Oh, and did I mention that we're working on Parallels Server for Mac? Look for that around the turn of the year as well.

I'm really looking forward to the beta of that. Be nice to be able to recover the space Boot Camp is using up on my machine; I only use it for one Windows game I like to play. :)

    Gaming on intel Macs

After reading up on Transgamings "Cider" product I'd expect in the future that games may well be cross platform out of the box. Its an interesting take that doesn't require a Windows partition at all. Seems more advanced than Crossover in the gaming dept., being a hardcore gamer myself this is welcome news, and doesn't require any heavy porting thats required so many man hours to prepare titles for the Mac platform. I can see it being used for all sorts of apps. We definitely live in interesting times... whether thats a curse or a blessing we'll have to wait and see.

i don't really see transgaming's solution as a REAL solution. DirectX is a moving target, and transgaming will always be in a trailing position. Cider is based on the work in WINE, which is basically a crap shoot with regards to app compatibility.

head over to their forum and check out the cedega section (i assume the same thing for linux as to what cider is to osx), lots of compatibility issues.
