I had my MacBook Pro connected to the internet via a IP over FireWire connection and noticed that Parallels is unable to share this connection to my VM. Will this be possible in the future? Should it work now?

Sure, this would be great: when my MacBookPro is connected to the Internet over the FW link, the guest OS has no access to the Internet ;-(

BTW, it would be nice to rework the "Networking" option:
1/ When host network cannot be bridged, the dialog box should block the boot of the guest OS, until the user selects "resume" or "abort". There are a lot of cases where booting the guest OS without networking is simply useless. The VM should not try to boot the OS when networking is not available, except if the user chooses to explicitly resume the boot without networking
2/ There should be an alternative option to select "host-only networking" when bridged networking in not available. For now, the user needs to update the VM settings every time he moves from an environment where a network connection is available to an environment w/o network! This is really boring. W/o networking, shared folders are not available from the guest OS. In extenso, this means that when the host OS is not connected to some network, the guest OS cannot communicate with the host OS ;-(
