When I use the Parallel Tools to compress the hard drive, just when it starts the second phase, I get an error that reads:

Process of compacting of the virtual hard disk /xx/ was abnormally terminated due to the error.
Please run Parallels Image Tool utility and use 'Defragment expanding hard disk image' function to complete compacting of the virtual hard disk.

There is no "Parallels Image Tool" for the Mac version. So, what do I do?

I have had a similar issue. Is there a way to verify the Disk Image is not corrupted in some manner.

I do have an "Image Tool" application in the Parallels Folder. You to shoud have it. I'm wondering...

It's a 5,4 Mbyte .app. I can compress it and send it by email...
