When copying content from the Command window (and other text based utilities), the clipboard translation from the Guest to the Host is corrupted.

    SETUP
    OS X 10.4.6
    PWS 2.1 (1848)
    Windows XP SP2

    STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
    1) Open PWS and run a Windows XP client
    2) Open a Command window (Start - Accessories - Command Prompt)
    3) Enter a simple set of commands, for example (image 1):
    dir
    4) Select all of the text between the prompt in the prior command, and the current prompt out to the right edge and press Enter to copy the text. (image 1)
    5) Go back to the host and open TextEdit (or any other text editor).
    6) Paste the clipboard contents into the TextEdit window.

    RESULTS:
Random garbage is appended. (image 2)

    EXPECTATIONS:
One for one clipboard translation with proper CR/LF -> LF conversion.

    Build 1862 Beta (and earlier)

The following has happened to me for a while now. (before Build 1862 Beta)

Copying 1710240 from WinXP (latest everything) to Mac OS X 10.4.7 (latest everything) I get the following result (please note you'll only see it with apps that care).
    1710240\x00

For example in BBEdit (TextWrangler (free)) open a doc type a string of numbers, switch to Notepad under Windows XP type the same number. Highlight the number and copy to clipboard. Swtch back to Mac OS X and in BBEdit (TextWrangler (free)) do a Command-F followed by Command-V (do a search command followed by a paste, click Find and you'll get a result not found. If you do a Command-F again you'll see the hidden characters.

But new in Build 1862 Beta, is the clipboard going from Mac OS X to WinXP is getting extra characters. It's not as easy to reproduce, but when I have steps I'll post.

    Hope this helps.

I've discovered a more specific problem involving copy/paste from Guest to OSX, and I think it helps clarify what the issue might be.

When I copy/paste text from Windows XP into an email in OSX Thunderbird, the email will not send -- it causes the smtp server to stop responding. This only seems to happen when there are return characters in the text. Windows returns are usually character 13 (carriage return) followed by character 10 (line feed). OSX, I think, uses only character 13 (while UNIX uses 10). I think this is the source of the problems we've been seeing reported relating to garbage in the clipboard.

Do the Parallels folks read this forum, or should I file a report directly to them?

    Cheers,
    Martin

They do read the forums, and will now, or very soon, now about what you have found. Only if they want more info, or this is the first time that they have been alerted to the situation, will you see a reply. But it will be known about, and worked on. From our side, it just takes a little faith and patience.
