I'm using parallels (final) with winxp pro sp2 fully updated. Everything worked fine. I had xp setup with a username/password that I've been using for weeks. I decided to use compressor because I had deleted some rather large files and wanted to reduce my hdd space (using expanding hdd). Well, after everything completed successfully, I rebooted the vm. Now, it will not accept my username and password. I've tried everything. I know my username/pass are correct.

What the ##$#$@#ck! Any ideas. I don't want to have to re-install because, 1) activation is a biatch and 2) I spent a lot of time customizing the setup.

    Help.

I originally posted this in the compressor forum with no replies. I realized that it's not the stand-alone compressor product I'm using, but the compact function in the Desktop for Mac product.

I posted this in the compressor forum and this one as well as contacting parallels support.

    No replies from anyone.

I really need to gain access to my system. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this or experience similar a similar problem.

I know something is screwed. I did not forget my username and password. I even went into the repair console and it wouldn't take my admin password there. ????

What the hell happened to support for people who bought this product?

    Thank God!

I used the free tool at http://ebcd.pcministry.com/ to reset my passwords. Great tool. I blanked my passwords and was able to login.

Still I need to know what happened during the compressor activity to corrupt/reset my passwords. This is a serious problem.

Has it happened to anyone else?

Can you report some specific details about this? Does anyone else experienced this?
We failed to reproduce this in our labs so far.

I'm sorry I'm late getting back to this, but what specific details would you like?

    My Specs:
    *Macbook, 2gb ram, 120gb hd (27gb free), osx 10.4.7
*Parallels Desktop for Mac Final Release, 756mb ram dedicated, Acceleration High, Expanding HD 20000MB (16 gb free) in default location, Bridged Ethernet, Def CD and Audio, No USB devices except mouse
*WinXP Pro SP2 fully updated installed inside Parallels

    What happend?
I ran the compressor/compact feature included in Desktop for Mac because I wanted to reclaim some wasted space. I had deleted about 4gb of data I had in there. The compressor ran without any error messages. On the first reboot after the compression it would not accept my username and password, nor the administrator username and password. I know my user and pass were correct...I had been using the same for weeks. I eventually had to use the tool I mentioned in my previous post to clear my passwords. Since then, things have been fine, but I've yet to run compressor again since then. I'm a little concerned that it will happen again, but I'll just make sure I have a full backup before attempting again.

Let me know if there is anything else I can provide to help you. I've included everything I can think of at the moment. Please note that I have since upgraded this installation to the latest Build 1862 Beta so my help any further on the issue may be limited now.

Thanks for the help. Let me know what you find. Keep up the good work. My Parallels wishlist:

    1) Use the bootcamp install as the vm instead of two installations (BIGGEST WANT)
    2) Multiple monitor support, not sure if this is possible, I use this a lot in bootcamp
    3) Ability to not save the session, restore to default every time or choice to do so
    4) Don't care about all the device support like others except USB 2.0 for external drives

    Thanks.
