Over the weekend I had a power failure for over 24 hours. Once the power was on, I could not get back on to Parallels which also means Windows. I have no idea how to fix this problem. I have some very important files on the Windows side that I would like to retrieve if possible. Someone told me that Windows probably crashed and I will have to re-install it. How do I do that? Do I need to re-install Parallels as well? Is there any way to retrieve my files that are on Windows or will I lose everything? Someone else told me that they never save any files on the Windows side only the Mac. I use Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel ALL the time. Is that possible using Parallels to share the files with the Mac side? I do not have any Microsoft Programs on the Mac side and I don't intend to purchase any at this time. If someone could please help out I would greatly appreciate it! Also I am very new to using Mac computers and Parallels as well so if someone would be so kind and tell me step by step on how to fix this, that would be very helpful. Heather
A Windows crash hasn't required a reinstall here ever. Is OSX running properly? Can you start the Parallels app and get to the property page view? If so, does it show your VM? If not, open your VM in that page. If you are in property page view and you try to start the VM, exactly what happens?
When I open up Parallels, I click on the VM b/c for some reason I have 3 on there when I should only have 1. I need to delete 2 of them but I am not sure which ones I need to get rid of. Once I click on the VM that I think I have been using, I am re-located to the black box and the nothing happens. Normally a pop bpx appears and it logs me into Windows. All the box says is 640 KB Base Memory and 516096 KB Extended Memory. When this happened yesterday, an error message appeared saying "No boot device available, press enter to continue." Then nothing would happen. Do you know how I can fix this?
Try Open Recent.... It sounds like you may be trying to boot into a virtual machine that does not have an (or has an incomplete) operating system loaded. I am doing this from memory so bear with me...try going to the File menu, then choose Open Recent (I think), and it will show you the names of the VMs you have used recently...try each of the VMs listed there.
Thank you so much! I did what you suggested and it worked. I was opening up the wrong VM!!!! I feel like an idiot but thank you!
