Hey guys. Have a little bit of a problem here. I have just installed Parallels and Windows XP on my new (but 1 month old) MacBook with 2GB of ram. The install went fine but when I try to goto Windows Update, the computer just turns off with no warnings or error messages. I transfered a 3 gig file into windows and it worked fine, but Windows Update, still turns it off. I haven't encountered this problem anywhere in Mac OS X or in Windows XP with the exception of Windows Update. And it's not a one time thing, every time I try windows update, the Macbook turns off. Sometimes not immediately, but it will always eventually turn off. Is anyone else having this problem? Any possible solutions? Are there any logging programs I can run that can see the exact error before it turns off? Edit: Just wanted to add that heat isn't an issue because the processor stays between 66 and 71 degrees during the whole process.
Have the same problem Hi, I have the same problem. I did not realise it was related to the Windows update, but now I think back and whenever it crashed my whole computer, I also saw the windows update bubble in the systray corner. I also have a MB with 2gigs RAM. I hope this can be fixed. I wouldn't mind Parallels crashing, but my whole computer, that is terrible. Cheers, Grischa
Not sure if this is at all related, but I was having a problem with a fairly brand-new MacBook Pro just turning itself off with no warning, but only when running on the battery (never happened when plugged in to the A/C). It would happen at times when I would begin some substantial process that would kick up the CPU use substantially, I don't remember that an XP ugrade ever triggered it for me, but other random things would cause the machine to just turn off (like a desktop machine that has its plug yanked out) I called AppleCare, and they were able to determine that the battery in my MBP was defective, and of course they proptly sent me a replacement, and now all is felicitous.
