I need to run only a few Windows apps and do not need the web so will be free from viruses. What files from a fresh install of Windows on a Paralles setup can I delete? I would like to get Windows down in size so I can add a few more apps without using more HD space, I got a intelMacmini. Please help! Thanks!!

That is pretty much what Parallels Compressor is for. Just install a win vm and use the compressor to toss out all the crud you don't need. You'll find it in the Parallels VM menu.

Read the instructions as it may also toss out things you'd like to keep like games and backgrounds.

    Hi,

I thought that Compressor only acted in a similar fashion to Windows defrag & disk clean-up (similar to what you'd do under Control Panel in Win XP). It doesn't remove programs such as IE - I don't think you can do that as it's a fundamental past of Windows.

You could look at Add/Remove programs under Control Panel (in Windows), and remove some of the excess stuff there.

Just my thoughts, but I'd be keen to know if Compressor can be used for more

    Cheers,

Build a throwaway vm and run Compressor on it. Check the before/after results. It tosses out a lot of stuff.

There is just not that much that Microswift allow you to do.

Taking out Windohs components through "add/remove programs" is about the extent of it.

I can give you a couple of suggestions how to trim it right down, but it may not continue to work.;-)

You could use your current XP install to produce a stripped down version of XP using www.nliteos.com, and reinstall.

I'm not absolutely sure about this, but I think nliteos will flag as dangerous any attempt to exclude components that are necessary. And I'm not sure how that will affect your current license.

How about Windows 2000? Seems to be about 1GB slimmer from the start (normal installation), and can get reduced even more from there using Compressor.
