Trying to install Ubuntu with PArallels on a 17" iMac.

Live CD boots up fine and runs but when I click the install icon it goes very slow through the steps and sometimes hands at the City selection step and takes forever to do this step, CD keeps running and running.

The one time I did get past the step steps if totally froze the iMac after about 36%.

Any tips for getting Ubuntu to install or possible a more stable Lixux install to use?

I've seen it posted in a few threads, Ubuntu works best with 512MB allocated. Have you tried Kubunto/Xubunto? I had more success with those.

Try the Ubuntu 6.06 LTS DVD. It worked pretty much perfectly for me, using the "Other Linux 2.6" setting. I had 1GB of ram allocated during the install, but I currently run it at 512MB. Not sure if that matters.

Only have 512MB of ram in the iMac I have. Could that be the issue?

That is the same version I tried, tried with mounted ISO and a CD version, both hung. Perhaps its the ram. Guess I don;t have enough to run it.

That would definitely be the problem. I had the same thing, but since I've maxed my MacMini to 2G it's flying, with no problems installing Ubuntu 6.06
