I have had it periodically that Windows XP Pro/Parallels becomes unresponsive. It just plain freezes.

I can switch to other applications, and the Force Quit dialog does not show it as frozen. it usually will show high CPU utilization. But the only way to get it back is to kill it.

This is usually, when it is running in Full Screen mode under You Control Desktops.

Is there any trick to shake it loose (AppleEvent?)

You have to eliminate some things to get to a root cause.

    - Disable the You Control desktop and see if the problem is repeatable. If it is not then don't use You Control desktop.

    - Don't use the guest OS full screen, and don't allow the host to sleep if the guest OS is active. See if this changes the nature of the problem.

    - Run Parallels but don't start a guest OS and again, see if this changes the nature of the problem.

This assumes you never have this problem when Parallels is not running.
