First of all: wow. Parallels is completely fantastic! But second: bugger. Here's why...

I'm sync'ing my Treo 650 to an XPPro VM (running in Parallels, obviously) and it works beautifully, except for one thing; I get the following error whenever I try to sync with my ACT! (sales management software) contact list..

"The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop was lost."

I can sync ACT!'s to-do list and calendar, no problem. But I always get this error on the contacts list. It syncs happily for about 5 minutes and then -- boom! -- the error appears on the Treo. HotSync Manager on the VM continues unaware that the device has been disconnected, which is equally bizarre.

Does anyone know how to get around this? The contacts sync operation always takes a long time; is it a connection time issue (e.g. Parallels only holds the USB connection on a continual basis for a short period?)?

If anyone has a solution to this, I'd REALLY appreciate your help! This is the very last thing preventing me from totally dumping my Toshiba laptop...

    Thanks!
    Dave

    More information

After more testing, it's pretty clear that the cause of the problem is either the volume of the data being sync'd and/or the amount of time it takes to sync. If I reduce the number of contacts to be sync'd, for example, the process completes without any errors.

Has anyone else found a solution to this problem?!

    Palm Synch

    dgcassidy,
How have yu managed to synch your Palm through Parallels?
I have a Treo 700P and I am having the most difficult getting my Palm to synch.
I have checked for the Device Drop-Down Mennu and I can hear it the Windows XP Client chime to indicate new device, and I can see USB icon indicator on the bottom of the status bar. And I have just received a new Palm 700P from Verizon due to another issue; and prior to that I had rebuilt the Parallels client and I have reinstalled the Palm client.
So how on earth have you managed to get yours to work? I am so desperate to get rid of using two computers PC/Mac for the sake of one handheld device....
So what have you done different than what I have done?
    TIA :)

tanker: i would use missing sync on the mac if you don't need your contacts in windows other than because the palm sync software that comes with it works on windows
Missing sync will snc all your treo's stuff w/ all the apple apps, it's great!

dgcassidy: sounds like a usb2 issue, have u tried setting it all up using bluetooth, it might take longer but should work (assuming parallels supports bt-- i have not had a need for bt from windows)

    Palm Treo sync'ing issues

To be clear: I'm not sync'ing my Treo 650 (not 700) with Windows through Parallels right now because of a timeout issue with a conduit I have to use for work (the conduit for ACT!, a contact and sales management tool, damn program that it is). However, if I turn that conduit off everything works as it would normally in Windows. I do this through USB, using the USB cable provided with the Treo. I have the virtual machine take control of any USB device that is connected to the MacBook -- I don't do the "manual connect" thing.

I haven't tried this since build 1848 was released because the ACT sync failed on that. So maybe things are better with a more recent build??

For what it's worth, I'm still using two computers. :-(

    Cheers,
    Dave

kaotica: I wasn't aware that Bluetooth worked in Parallels! I shall give that a whirl on build 1940. (How come the Parallel's update tool in the software didn't alert me to build 1940?!)
