    Hi

    I need help urgently.

My company want to upgrade my Parallels VM (XP Pro) to Active Directory.

They need to access my machine to do so and currently are trying to ping it, which fails every time.

I can ping Parallels from my Mac but IT cannot ping EITHER my Mac or Parallels ip address.

I have turned off the Windows Firewall and set Netbarrier to 'no restrictions'

    Any ideas please??????????

    Cheers.

    Robin

PS I am using 'Bridged Networking'

    Robster,

NetBarrier default settings permit it to blacklist (and drop all packets from) hosts it detects scan attempt from. I can't recall where exactly in NB UI this list is, but it's worth searching for.

But surely if Parallels is sitting on its own IP address NetBarrier should have no impact on it whatsoever using Bridged Network.

If it was a shared network I can understand this.

    Confused of Andover.

The first rule of strict security states something like that: forbid everything that's not explicitely allowed. I wouldn't bet on NB implementation to check destination address in this case.

Anyway, I'm not insisting on NB cutting you off the net. I was just suggesting you check the list of banned hosts, because I was bitten by it once.
Have you tried pinging IT machine from your Mac?

    Got it thanks.

    It WAS NetBarrier!!!!!!!!

Even though I had set NetBarrier to off I was nosing through all sorts of settings and found one that said Filtering mode STEALTH (prohibit ping replies).

I still don't understand why this was having an effect as I thought Parallels would not be affected by Netbarrier and secondly I THOUGHT I had turned the damn thing off.......

    Many thanks for the help.

    Robin
