I'm having a problem with my superdrive scratching DVDs intermittently when using it is Parallels for the Mac on my iMac. This is after some warranty work that included replacing the main board. Don't know if the two are related. But I was thinking of just buying an external superdrive as a quick solution. But then I wonder if it matters whether I get an external DVD drive that is Mac or Win compatible? Would Parallels for the Mac be able to work with either type drive? Or, since it would be an external drive, would it have to be a Windows drive since I would think that Parallels would grab it at boot up and want it to be a Windows drive?

    Thanks for thoughts on this.

If you use external CD/DVD based on USB you can connect it as USB device to Virtual Machine

The CD/DVD drives is mostly standard. So windows should see it without any problems. You can connect it via USB or as usual, as Mac CD/DVD drive to Parallels.
