I run Parallels to access a USB chip programmer. All worked fine for months under PD 3. With PD 4.0 the Windows program says "Unable to communicate. Check USB cable". I restart the programmer application and it says "No ports were found". The USB tool in the tool tray shows the programmer with a check mark. Enabling and disabling the programmer (or plugging / unplugging) produces no sound effect to indicate Windows knows the driver is loading or unloading, though the check mark changes. Reloading Parallels and restarting Windows XP has no effect. Yesterday I re-installed the programmer application under Windows and it started working. I used the programmer and suspended the VM.

This morning it says "Unable to communicate. Check USB cable". So I quit the programmer and relaunched. It says "Unable to access any ports" .... back where I started. Enabling and disabling the programmer (or plugging / unplugging) produces no sound effect to indicate Windows knows the device is there or not, even though the check mark in the USB menu changes. I have not tried to reinstall the application, it's rather tedious.

I ran the Add Hardware Wizard and heard the chirp for a USB device being loaded. Now the programmer works and I can load or unload it from the tool tray.

I suspended the VM and then restarted it. The USB device is gone.

I run the Add Hardware Wizard and hear the chirp for a USB device being loaded, and the programmer works.

I do not complete the Wizard. I only click the first "Next" button.

Well, you've screwed me now. I had a work around that allowed the USB programmer to work. Foolishly, I installed the last update offered (build 4.0.3810) thinking that it was the fix for my USB problems. Not so. Now I am unable to run the USB programer at all, and my work around no longer works either.

I completely re-installed the programmer software and it still doesn't work.

How can I get installation files for the build prior to 3810 to see if I can go back?

I tried to use the Time Machine to go back and it killed the whole installation.

Or tell me what files I need to restore with Time Machine to make a complete set.

Actually we do not recommend to use time machine
Also, why you are trying to use Time Machine, just uninstall build 3810 and install older,
In case of Time machine, you need to check for a folder where you VM is located and restore it to another place, to check from which day it will work
The best way to backup VM, is just use clone, or simple copy to backup location pvm bundle

I am trying to use the Time Machine because I cannot find a copy of the previous build on your web site. It was the only way I could think of to get back to Parallels as it was last Monday.

Where can I get the installation for the build prior to 3810?
