I am running a Windows XP SP2 virtual machine in Parallels Desktop for Mac. I backup my Parallels VMs to an external firewire drive on a weekly basis. When I right click on a file in the Windows XP VM, my external firewire drive wakes from sleep. I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact that I have a backup of the Parallels VM on that drive, but I would love to be able to stop it from waking that drive. While the drive spins up, I get no response in the Windows VM. Anyone have any ideas why this happens and how to prevent it?
No , it is not related to backup, Parallels Desktop scanning all drives to check VMs in he root of drive,or in case f registered VM, to particularr folder to verify VM presence, it is by design, to enhance user experience
I'm not sure I understand your response. Why does it need to scan for other VMs on other drives? How does this enhance my user experience if I have to wait for my external drive (which has nothing to do with the VM I am working in) to spin up when I want to just right click on a file to copy it, delete it, rename it, etc. ?
