When I ran the new update, I received a message "One or more files necessary to update the software are missing. Contact the support team for assistance." (see attachment)

I had the same issue. The update alert had come up after I had clicked to start Windows; the update downloaded but gave me the error message.

I tried again, with Windows shut down, and the install worked.

    Install not working

When trying to install the 4.0 upgrade, I have a message that tells me to close Windows XP before the install can continue...but I can't see where any virtual application is running. I just upgraded to Leapord, so I'm not sure what to do? Help?

I've encountered a problem with the software update for Parallels 4.0.3810..... What am I doing wrong?

I already have Parallels 4.0.3540 installed and running on my Macbook 2.4 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB hard drive OS X 10.5.6 but it is shut down when I try to update to the latest version.

When prompted to install the latest software update to v 4.0.3810 I can download the update but during the installation process I keep receiving the error message:

Conflicting Applications: To continue the install quit the following applications 'Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac'

I don't have Parallels running at the time if this error message.

Can anyone throw me some pointers please?

    Maybe a fix?

My installation was successful after I threw away the application that the error message said was open. It started right up.

That's where my problem is because Parallels 4 is shut down and not running and I get the error message saying I have to quit Parallels 4 to complete the install.

Navigate to VM folder, right click on pvm file show package content, and delete .sav and .mem files, or start VM, and shutdown it do not suspend

Thanks. Got sorted in the end. It turned out that Parallels was loading in the background when trying to carry out the update install.

I am experiencing this same issue, and have been unable to resolve it. Attempting to upgrade from 4.0.3540 to 4.0.3810. I have shut down the virtual machine and have quit Parallels, but I continue to get the "Conflicting virtual machines: Microsoft Windows Vista" message upon attempting to install the update.

In addition to shutting down the virtual machine (not stopping/suspending), I have verified that no files in the virtual machine folder contain .mem or .sav files:

    > cd ~/Documents/Parallels/Microsoft\ Windows\ Vista.pvm/
    > ls -1a
    .
    ..
    .Microsoft Windows Vista.pvs.lock
    Snapshots.xml
    Windows Applications
    Windows Disks
    config.pvs
    config.pvs.backup
    parallels.log
    unattended.fdd
    winvista.hdd

Also, I have removed the .parallels-vm-directory from ~/Documents:

    > cd ~/Documents
    > rm -rf .parallels-vm-directory/

The issue persists, and I am unable to complete the upgrade.

    Don't remove VM

I went through technical support on this issue and they advised that I remove the VM and start over. Do not do this. It made me lose my entire desktop. I kept a lot of files on there so I lost tons of stuff. If you do make sure you move all your stuff on your desktop to your documents folder and back up before you remove the machine.
