I upgraded my Parallels Desktop on my MacBook to 4.0 from 3 today. Everything seems to be working OK but the printing. I have an Epson Stylus Photo RX680 that is attached by USB to my desktop Mac and is shared by my laptop. Printing worked fine for me under 3.0 using this setup. I believe I have followed the instructions in the help files and what I've seen on this forum. Parallel Port 1 is enabled and connected I have tried selecting both the Epson printer and just the default printer ....no printing. Under Bonjour, I installed the HP Color LaserJet 8500PS drivers and it is selected in the Print Setup window. Still no joy. I put a document to print, a generic printer icon pops up but then disappears and nothing is printed. The HP 8500 is set as the default printer. Can someone help me to get these settings right? Thanks! Kathy
Kathy, I had problems with printing when I first installed Parallels 3.0. I'm using a Brother HL-1440 printer. I discovered that I had a firewire connector, so I connected the printer to the computer using a firewire cable. That fixed my problem. However, one time I accidentally shut my printer off using the on-off switch and thought I'd never get it to work again. I was a little reluctant to install Parallels 4.0 for this reason. However, I decided to upgrade and have had no printing problems with 4.0.
Thanks for your thoughts, but my situation is a little different .....maybe I didn't describe it well enough. My printer is connected via USB to my desktop computer which also has PD4 on it and it prints using Bonjour just fine. My laptop is connected wirelessly to our network and uses the Epson printer as a shared printer. Under PD3, it was able to print just fine. Now, under PD4, it recognizes the Epson printer, but will not print to it. I've tried various combinations of setting the default printer in Windows (2000 Pro) as the Epson (as defined by Bonjour) or to the HP printer drivers that Bonjour has you use. Nothing seems to work.
It looks that you installed antivirus, which blocks communication, Either tune it up to allow bonjour connection, or uninstall antivirus
I obviously don't understand how this works or how to do what you are suggesting. The confusing thing for me is that Bonjour worked great for printing on this very computer under PD3. Now, all of a sudden with version 4, it no longer works? Are you suggesting I uninstall my anti-virus program every time I need to print anything??? I am using AVG 8 FREE. I don't know how to tune it up! Can you be more informative?Thank you.
I do not know how to tune up AVG, they are changing settings almost every 2 month, I guess, you can try to uninstall AVG, and reconfigure printer again. As for AVG I guess they have forum, and probably they can give you direction
OK. Well thank you. i still don't understand why it worked in version 3, though. I had the exact sane setup then.
