I have a proprietary program that requires me to use <Shift><Insert> to insert a new row in a database view. I can't just stop using it. In P3, the key combination of <Fn><Shift><Enter> worked just fine. I assume this is the same as using keypad <enter> on the full size keyboard. In P4, this no longer works. I tried adding in the key combination to translate under the Parallels properties but it doesn't work. Any suggestions? Using: Macbook Pro, Leopard 10.5.6, 2.4 Ghz, 4 GB SDRAM Parallels 4.0.3540. Guest OS: Windows XP Pro SP3.
Sorry for the duplicate reply in the Install thread. You can delete that one if you want. John, I tried setting the keyboard shortcut in preferences but it will not transmitt the key sequence to the Guest OS. I set <Shift> <Keybad enter> = <Shift> <Insert>. Is there a way I can test to see the exact key sequence is being transmitted or not? I only know it didn't work because the line insert did not function like it should have.
Yes, you can test it using on-screen keyboard in Windows http://www.microsoft.com/enable/training/windowsxp/usingkeyboard.aspx
Yeah, I tested but I don't see the Insert key being hit with the On Screen Keyboard. Again I have the preferences set so that <Shift> + <Fn> + <Return> translated in the Generic keyboard menu to <Shift> + <Insert>. But it just will not send it to the Guest OS. Is there anyway to fix this?
Hi John, yeah I tried skipping using the Keyboard return on a Macbook Pro (Hense the use of <Fn><Enter>) with the same results. I'll try once more but when I did it this morning it doesn't work. One thing I do know is when I'm in bootcamp and I'm logged into the same application I can do a Shift + Insert by holding down <Shift><Fn><Enter>. And again, it used to work just fine in Parallels 3.0 too.
Hi John: Sadly this program is a Terminal Emulator with a specific mnenomics for the server application. But you gave me an idea for testing with another Term Emulator. I will reply with what I find out once I test with a couple others. Thanks!
Hi John: I have come across a similar issue that involves windows itself. When I'm in Remote Desktop in XP and I hold down Fn-CTRL-ALT-Enter for CTRL-ALT-INSERT, it doesn't work. When in Remote Desktop Connection, to pull up the CTRL-ALT-DEL on the remote PC, you have to do CTRL-ALT-INSERT. I can't get it to work through parallels 4 and this is also another key thing I need for adminitration. So any combination using the Fn-Enter to pass an Insert key through doesn't work. I have the Windows Profile mapped in preferences in Parallels 4 to pass the Numberpad Enter as an Insert. Doesn't work though.
Hi John, Under the Windows Profile for Keyboard Shortcuts in the preferences I setup CTRL-ALT-Slash(/) = Ctrl-Alt-Insert. I have had no luck. Remote Desktop Connection will not pull up the security screen on the remote desktop. It seems no matter what I do if I try to do more than just insert meaning if I try to do CTRL or ALT or OPTION (Apple key) or SHIFT, I can't get the keys to pass through. Again this worked just fine in Parallels 3.0 but not in 4.0.
