Hi, I am a new to Parallels Desktop (4). I have a virtual machine running Windows XP SP2 without trouble. I just can't install the Parallels Tools. When i launch them, they seem to perform all the tasks but at the end, I got this message. Failed to install Parallels Shared Folders Driver. When i click ok, it's write Failed to Uninstall Parallels Shared Folders Driver. And it' perform a rolling back action, undoing all the things done before and finishing with a message that said that the installation failed and that clicking OK will reboot the virtual machine to try again to install the tools. I tried a lot of time but still don't work. I have now upgrade to build 3540, but it doesn't change anything. I have find a little solution but not working for all. Before accepting at the first error message, I copied the parallels tools in the program files, and rename the copie. Like that, the rolling back action don't suppres all the data. After that, i ask to search in that directory when looking driver in the peripheric center (i don't know if it's the correct name in english), so i can install all the driver. But i still can't use the parralels tools function (clipboard sharing, folder sharing, coherency mode ...). What could be the problem? Is there a way to install the tools, without launching the installor because i now have all the files of the parralels tools directory in program files? Thanks for your help? Sorry for my english.
Try the following: -go to Start => My Computer => Control Panel => Add/remove programs. Uninstall any and all instances of Parallels Tools found there; -shutdown your Virtual Machine and go to the Configuration Editor (Virtual Machine => Configure); -go to CD/DVD-ROM 1. select the 'use image file' radiobutton. click 'Choose'. go to /Library/Parallels/Tools and open the 'prl-tools-win.iso' file. click 'Ok'. start your Virtual Machine; -wait for Windows to boot completely. go to Start => My Computer, right-click on the cd-rom icon (it should display the Parallels Tools logo) and select Autorun. This should get the Parallels Tools to install. Should the issue persist, you might wish to submit a ticket with our support department (see here: http://www.parallels.com/support/desktop/request/)
I also try to install this way. The problem is not that i don't find the installer but that the installer failed at the end, when he tried to install the shared folders driver. I can't uninstall it with add/remove because when he failed install, he rolls back and unistall all what he done, so parallels tools never are installed in this virtual machine. It's not an update, i am new to Parallels. So what could be the problem about the shared folders drivers install. I have unshare all the previous shared folders but he don't change anything, i have also tried after having diconnect all the shared folders, and also unshare the mac folders in the leopard host. I don't know what to do, to try.
This *may* be an anti-virus at work, mistaking installing Parallels Tools for malicious software and blocking the installation. I would recommend you to disable (or better yet uninstall) your antivirus (if you have one of course) and see if this improves the situation.
Could you please create a support ticket and tell me it's number, or send me your mail address via forum private message (I will create a ticket myself)? I'd want to send you a small solution that may help. It will also collect some logs and they should help to resolve the problem in the next build of Parallels Desktop 4.0.. Support ticket can be created at http://www.parallels.com/support/desktop/request/
Some people on the support are trying to help me. But for thr moment, we haven't find a solution. I think my ticket number is [Parallels #628513] [PD4] can`t install Parallels Tools? Thanks
We have found a solution with the support team. I don't known if it could be useful for others. It was a problem with my windows who doesn't look for drivers in the Inf directory. a reg file or a line in regedit could solve the problem. In fact each time, drivers aren't find automatically when you install a ew material. If you think you have the same problem, you should contact the support and tell us about the devicepath driver install problem. open RegEdit (by clickick Start->run and typing regedit.exe), navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion and make sure that the key "DevicePath" is present and assigned to "%SystemRoot%\inf". For me, my problem is solved.
Support is working with me on this. I have sent a log file and am anxiously awaiting a positive (fingers crossed) reply...
Can't install Parallels Tools? - same problem I am also having the same problems after processing 4.0 upgrade, probably released on Christmas?? Parallels Tools installation rolls back after announcement of registration. Checked devicepath registry, all is OK. Still can't install. Am using prl-tools-win.iso as noted.
Please create ticket in support we can check situation http://www.parallels.com/support/desktop/request/
this finally resolved my effort to get a vista vm rolling with Parallel Tools, thanks! Although the transporter-generated vm defaulted to *not* showing my vista taskbar, which is bizarre defaulting, i solved that by googling and finding the system option to show/hide it. ..now if i could just get this vm to copy & paste between hosts (the reason i imported my bootcamp-based vm in the first place..)
Hi I am having the same problem. Upgrade to 4.0 works fine, but Parallels Tools installation failed (XP, no firewall, anti-virus disabled, using prl-tools-win.iso) PT install is writing registry, even shared folder icon appears on desktop, but finally installation rolls back completely.

This is about ticket ID #647442 Meanwhile I solved this using information posted to another thread. Missing XP registry key caused my problem "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce" Anyway - Thanks for support.
I had same problem. Not only removed Parallels Tools using Add/Remove Programs, but also removed Parallels folder from Program Files. It had an older driver in a Parallels Tools subfolder. That seemed to do the trick because the next time I installed Parallels Tools, I didn't have the video driver or roll back problem. All seems to work now.
Me too... On My machine, I uninstalled parallels tools. Then, when I reconnect, I cannot see the CDROM. When go to ControlPanel->hardware->devices, it says the CDROM driver is corrupt. I tried re-installing Parallels but to no avail. I am trying NOT to have to reinstall all of Windows.
