Parallels is requesting that I upgrade the solution to the new 4.0. When I select "Remind me Later" Parallels locks up and becomes non-responsive. Is this a marketing gimmick from Parallels? I have lost work twice already because of the reminder window and I am very upset as a result. Why would I pay to upgrade when Parallels is forcing the issue by locking the state of my session when selecting "Remind me Later"?
You probably bought version 3 and now downloaded version 4, you didn't paid for version 4 so it's asking for your registration. You wil either downgrade back to 3 (convert the VMs to the older version first), or buy 4.
Nope. I definitely purchased version 3.0 and have been using it successfully. Only recently (last update?) did an advertising window start showing up that displayed "Upgrade to Version 4.0" with an option to 'Upgrade Now' or 'Remind me Later'. If you select 'Remind me Later' Parallels will lock up and the marketing folks will laugh at you for not purchasing the upgrade.
Build Number I agree with the direction you're taking. One of the software developers I work with thought that perhaps Parallels has a 'bug' in the most recent build 5626 (see attached screen shot).
I ran the version you have (5626) for a couple of weeks before upgrading to 4 and i didn't get such 'nag screens'. The about screen clearly says you have your product licensed. Maybe if you turn off automatic update checking it will stop nag you? I personally disagree with this move by Parallels to have it nag version 3 users into upgrading, as it seems to be he case.
