My wife's Parallels won't start - it tells her that a required file is in use. She shut down her machine before going out today, and came back, restarted it, and got the same error. What do we need to do to get Parallels running?
Hello Howard Brazee, What version and build of Parallels Desktop is installed? You can check it in Parallels Desktop > About Parallels Desktop. If it is Parallels Desktop 3.0, then I guess you get the error message "Hdd file is used by another application". In this case the following articles should help: http://kb.parallels.com/en/4938 http://kb.parallels.com/4680 If it is Parallels Desktop 4.0, please provide me with the exact error message.
I wish this forum told me when I get replies. But I've never been able to get it. I'll check out your links. The full message on her Parallels 3 is: Virtual machine cannot be started because of the following problem. Parallels Desktop is unable to access the virtual hard disk image file /Users/PatBrazee/Library/Parallels/winxp/winxp.hdd. The file is used by another application. Get Info doesn't show anything to suggest to me that it's been used in the last 3 days.
