    Hi,

Not only am I new to Parallels but also to Mac and I'd really appreciate some getting started help and reducing the feeling of overwhelm.

I've purchased an OEM version of XP Pro from Amazon and will install this using Bootcamp on my Macbook Pro.

Will the OEM installation register or should I have a full retail version?

    I have Parallels 4.0 installed.

When registering XP Pro at the time of Bootcamp installation, will I then be able to use the same product code for the Parallels XP Pro installation, or do I need 2 product codes?

The introduction video mentions that it's possible to migrate an existing PC. Will this migrate the XP Pro OS as well, including the product code, from my old laptop?

Many thanks in anticipation of some great help.

    Please see answers bellow:
    1. If it OEM DPO you can use it
    2. If 1st is true, you can just start Parallels Desktop and it will create VM based on Boot Camp, you will get access to the same Windows as in Boot Camp
    3. If 1 and 2, you do not need to have separate license

Thank you. I'm not sure what you mean by DPO though.

I have installed XP Pro using bootcamp which went fine, without activating until I get a full retail version of XP Pro, so I've got 30 days left.

However, installing Parallels didn't give me the option to use the bootcamp install, so I let it install again to have a play. Very impressed.

I now plan to delete the VM and migrate my old XP Pro laptop but would like Parallels to use the bootcamp XP Pro for the OS. Is this possible?

How do I force it to do this?

I only see options to install OS from CD drive or CD disc image when attempting to create a new VM.

I'm a little concerned that my Parallels trial key will expire before I get this sorted as the key arrived a week before my MBP (delayed due to snow!).

    I appreciate your support.

    Rip,
Go to File -> New Virtual Machine ... ->... and select Custom installation method, further you will be able to select Boot camp

No, it is a Parallels Desktop top menu bar.
