Hi. I got an aluminum macbook 2.4 Ghz, 4G RAM, using Parallels 4.0. I installed Windows Vista Ultimate (64) and when trying to use Windows Movie Maker (Yes, yes! I got Final Cut but Im very new to this stuff.. only 1 week with my new Mac), the program stated that my video card does not support the level of hardware acceleration. The message says that the card must support DirectX 9. I have 3D Acceleration checked and also have assigned 128 MB to the virtual card. PLEASE help me! (Yes I´m a little anxious.) By the way, thanks for an excellent product, Parallels is great.
1. Minimize hardware acceleration level in display properties. Right click on Desktop -> Personalize -> Display Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Trobleshoot tab. Put hardware acceleration level to zero. 2. Set Color in Display Settings to 24 bit making hardware acceleration set to maximum.
I think I followed these instructions but I still can't get Movie Maker to work. I turned down the video acceleration to none (requiring a restart), changed the color to 24bit and then set the video acceleration back up to full (requiring another restart). Here's a screenshot of my current settings.
John, thanks for your help. I also made the changes you explained, but still got the same message. Please, let us know if you get any additional ways to resolve it. Again, thanks for your time and help.
I've been looking through the forums a bit more and saw a post about not being able to run Direct X with your video driver, that would explain why windows movie maker won't run. It requires Direct X 9. As integral as Direct X is to so many applications on the web, I suddenly feel as though the 80 bucks I spent on your software today was not well spent. If there is no work around for this I believe I will take advantage of your Satisfaction Guaranteed offer and phone you for a return authorization. Maybe I can talk my prof into letting me use iMovie instead. *chuckle*
Still Needing Fix For This. Please!! Hi there. I'm still in need to know if there's a way to fix this problem. Please, let us know any possible solution.
Hi Again. Just received a Parallels Update. The update help to resolve another problem with some Vista Games (Chess and Purple Game) and with Windows Media Player. Thanks for that. But Windows Movie Maker is not responding yet. Will there be a new update to correct this issue or have there been established a troubleshooting for this?
Any updates to this issue yet? It has been since 12/08 that the thread was started. Using Parallels 4 and an intel mac and following the settings advice from John still gives the same error message.
Come on, Guys! Do you think there will be a fix before you launch another version of Parallels!? Really need this to work, guys!
Any update to this? I have the same problem. I started my own post before I saw this one. VilleT replied stating that he/she can get Movie Maker Live to work (which I tried but the same problem came up). But....I can't use Movie Maker Live even if it did work. I need Narration and only Movie Maker does that, they took it out of Movie Maker Live. Thank You.
