Is the Start menu integration only possible with Vista (as shown in your 4.0 tutorial)? I have XP SP3/Parallels 4.0.35400 and it isn't working. When I click on the Parallels icon in the dock, it just switches to Parallels. If I right-click, it brings up the normal contextual menu which is mostly the same as the Parallels Application menu. If I select the Start Menu option from there, nothing happens. Any suggestions? P.S. I tried posting a reply to this thread and even though the board software said the message was posted, it never appeared.
In Parallels Desktop->Preferences-Appearance you should set option Dock Icon as 'Start Menu', apply settings and check if it works or not. http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v4/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/22213.htm
It is already set that way. I tried setting it to Live Desktop then back and I have rebooted both the Windows and the Mac.
Ok. I fixed the problem. I had done a registry edit to disable the Windows key because in previous versions, pressing the Mac Command key caused the Start menu to appear. Now with the keyboard mapping ability of v4, this is no longer needed. It seems that Parallels calls up the Start menu by emulating a Windows key press. Since that key was disabled, the Start menu never appeared. Reverting the registry change fixed the problem.
