After upgrading to 4.0 I have no sound. My configuration is:

    Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo
    OSX 10.5.5 fully patched
    Win XP SP3 fully patched
    Boot Camp 2.1
    Parallels 4.0 Build 3540

The Windows Device Manager reports unknown device Multimedia Audio Controller. If I remove the device and reboot (Windows) it attempts to install a device driver for it but fails as it can't find a driver to install.

    Any thoughts?

    Hello,

did you try reinstalling Parallels Tools: Virtual Machine -> Reinstall Parallels Tools?

No, but the problem was there from the initial 4.0 upgrade, and through a couple of releases including the 3540 release. Each release installs the tools and after each install if still didn't work. 3540 included fixes specifically targeted towards losing sound after the 4.0 upgrade. I suspect that Parallels has an inkling of the problem.
