Am I the only ONE...

About a week ago I got the upgrade offer for Parallels 4.0. I decided to go with the boxed version to have the program on disk. A few days later the disk arrived and I placed it aside for about 3 days to think whether I wanted to take the "leap of faith". I was worried that I would have to go through the reinstallation of Windows Vista Home and the rest of my MS programs like Office Pro.

I finally got my courage up and popped the disk into my MB. When the installation box came up, I got a message that a later edition of Parallels was available for download or I could go with the disk installation. That took several minutes to decide since I thought I had the "latest" edition on disk. I decided to go with the download and after that loaded on my desktop, I was off again.

The installation went very smoothly although at least once and maybe twice I got a message that I would have to do something "manual". I didn't like that so I ignored the warning and the installation finally finished. When Parallels came up on my MB, I was happy to see that my Vista installation was there. I did get one warning that a driver was missing for the ethernet port with an option to search for it. I chose that and after some "spinning", I received a message that a driver could not be found. Since I didn't care one way or the other about ethernet, I ignored this error also.

So finally my Vista installation inside of Parallels popped up and after running the "parallels tools" program, EVERYTHING worked great. While I've one had the program for a few days, I would have to say it's the best upgrade of ANY programs I've ever installed. It seems to load maybe 50% faster than Parallels 3 and has much better support for switching back and forth between Windows and OS X.

I especially like the new Coherence mode.

I would have to give this program 5 Stars. I really surprised how many complaints there are here about the program.

 

Be careful what you say... I bought PD3 back on the 9th, got the message the next few days that PD4 was available as a free upgrade. Downloaded and installed. All went smooth. I had to reactivate my Vista and Office 2007, but that was expected and done without calling. Worked like a charm for a few days... then everything went to heck in a hand-basket. I couldn't open any control panels, my office said that it wasn't activate and couldn't be activated because of an error, same with Vista itself. Then I started getting random corruption errors... says that I need to run checkdisk on start up, but PD4 won't run anything at startup.
