Hi I recently upgraded from ver. 3 to ver. 4. I must say, that i think this is a terrible piece of buggy software, but at least i'm not alone I am running Parallels on an Intel iMac with OSX 10.5.5. I have 2 VM's 1) Bootcamp Vista and 2) normal XP SP2 VM Both upgraded from version 3. On my Vista i have the issue with Control Panel http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=31370&highlight=control+panel. But I am following that thread closely. My second problem is, that I simply cannot install Parallels Tools!!! The installer completes in 5-10 seconds and asks me to restart, but the result is strange. The message in the bottom of the screen that Parallels Tools is not installed is not there anymore, and the automatic release of the mouse and keyboard works. But there is no Tools Icon in the Tray, and no folder in the start menu? I have tried uninstalling Parallels Tools an reinstalling. Both via the Parallels Menu and via the disc image. Same result. I have the issue om both my VM's, and I even tried creating a XP VM from scratch - same result. What am I to do? i'm desperate!!!!
birkmose, The tray icon in guest OS as well as a folder in Start menu is not available anymore in Parallels Desktop 4.0. All guest tools configuration is done via Virtual Machine's Config editor. If the tools are really not installed, you will see a message about it in bottom-left corner of VM window. If all ok with tools, there's no message, like on pic attached
I guess my problem is similar. I am using Mac 10.5.5, 2.6 ghz mac pro, XP Pro sp3, upgrade from V3-V4. I had the problems during upgrades that others described with hardware/windows new code. Got a new code from Windows. Now, XP acts like parallels tools are not installed even though says they are. No auto mouse release, no coherence, cannot share files, network, etc. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling tools many times from virtual machines, disk image, etc. When I click on parallels shared folders on the desktop, I get the message "\\.psf is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. The system cannot find the file specified". I talked to customer no service and once I read this message the gentleman said "you not administrator". "Delete windows and reinstall and make sure you the administrator". Despite telling him I am the administrator he would not budge (ticket # 615237). I really am at a lose of what to do. Any ideas? I cannot back up any of the data, I am really stuck. RW
RLWIV, Please go to Help->Report a problem while your VM is running, send the report and provide its # here. The report contains some necessary logs that can help understand the issue
