I thought I had everything working and then looked at the readme file to learn more about what is in this release. I found that a lot of functionality just doesn't work. Shared folders, shared applications... I have everything set right but it just doesn't work. The mouse pointer was working well between Windows and the Mac but all of a sudden it stopped.

I hope there are some things that I can tweak, but I'm almost certain that this alpha release needs many fixes before it's even beta quality. But in the meantime, Parallels has my $40 so that will help them make payroll.

If I were the VP of Engineering at Parallels, I would be very embarrassed. If I were the CEO of Parallels, I'd fire the VP of Engineering and the head of QA. It may be time to switch to Fusion...

I may have to use the backups I fortuitously made and roll back to 3.

    VERY disappointed.

List of issues - this is not good...

    1. Cut and paste from OS X to Windows XP does not work
    2. Can't view Mac folders from Windows

The above 2 issues are the main reason for running Parallels in the first place. I simply can't believe they weren't tested properly.

    3. Can't print to HP Laserjet 1000 (worked fine in version 3.0)
    4. Shut down sometimes takes a very long time.

In summary: This is a beta release, I seriously regret paying for it and I regret even more being so excited that I skipped making a backup of my version 3 VM. VMWare doesn't seem to have any of these issues, I've never tried it but maybe it is time...

I did finally roll back. I tried.

BTW, nothing would get Windows 98 to work properly. I wasted hours on that one. I did get XP to sort-of-work, but you know, I have a real job to do here, and sort-of doesn't cut it.
