I too am having trouble with installing 4.0, but in a different way. As soon as I am prompted to continue the upgrade process manually, I enter my password and I get an activation error; consequently I cannot manually continue the upgrade process. As per the documentation, I've ignored the error and hoped that the updating will continue on its own, but that doesn't happen.

Sure could use some help here.

A Windows Activation or Parallels Activation?

On the Windows Activation side, though the upgrade to my bootcamp partition triggered the "activate again" process with Windows, by changing the MAC address of the virtual network card to the be the same as the physical network card (as I had set it in PD3), the product reactivated properly over the internet without calling MS. It was like it saw I had undone my upgrade and so I didn't need to make the call. Try setting the virtual card MAC address to be the same as it was in PD3 (if you remember/can tell) and see if Windows stops bothering you.

I had absolutely no problem upgrading bootcamp caused by the Windows Activation process coming up.

If your upgrade fails again, can you post more information about exactely what happens?

It's a Windows activation error...and by the way, I'm using Boot Camp. I deleted the virtual machine and had to reactivate Windows while booted via Boot Camp. I'll see if your suggestion works. Thanks.

Yeah, not sure about PD4, but in PD3 no solution I every found was given to avoid a reactivation every time you went from Boot Camp to Parallels (booting boot camp partition) except what I said above.

I was able to do an installation using your directions, BUT have some weird anomalies in the virtual machine - for instance, the control panel screen doesn't populate with icons...just leaves a big white box where the icons should be. When booting from Boot Camp alone, this problem doesn't exist. Maybe that's off topic here, but I'm going to do another post.Weird!

That is weird. If you access the different view options (list, icons etc) from the View menu, what happens?

You mean in Vista? That's what I'm talking about...when calling up the Vista Control panels, a window appears, but it never populates with the various Vista control panels. Windows Explorer fires up for a second and both it and the control panel window crash. Booting from Boot Camp alone, this problem does not exist...any ideas? Video driver maybe?
