I'm running Vista Ultimate SP1 on my MacOSX Leopard. When I check all the requirements for Aero Glass to work on a computer, my Macbook Pro does meet all that. I just wonder why the option for Vista Aero doesn't show up in the theme section (Control Panel- Personalize)
And by the way, why can't I run the Windows Experience Index? I run it the 1st time, it says application error and needs to close, then WinSAT (what is this?) also needs to close. I run it the 2nd time, it works just fine, until the last step, it says: "Cannot Complete Assessment: The assessment or other operation did not complete successfully. This is due to an error being reported from the operating system, driver, or other component.." Why is it so?

Even if your Macbook Pro covers all the requirements for running Aero, the virtual machine does not.

If you want Aero, you will have to install bootcamp and boot directly in Vista to have full access to the hardware. Parallel presents a virtual machine which is not able to run Aero, but has the convenience of being able to run at the same time as the OS X environment.

    Hello rocket,

The Windows System Assessment Tool (WinSAT) is a module of Microsoft Windows Vista which measures various performance characteristics and capabilities of the hardware it is running on and reports them as a Windows Experience Index (WEI) score, a number between 1.0 and 5.9. The WEI is due to increase its maximum score with future updates. The WEI includes five subscores: processor, memory, 2D graphics, 3D graphics, and disk; the basescore is equal to the lowest of the subscores.

The WEI allows users to match their computer hardware performance with the performance requirements of software. For example, the Aero graphical user interface recommends a WEI score of 3 or higher for satisfactory use of the "Aero Glass" feature. That is why this process was also started when you initialized Aero.

Any idea if this feature is ever going to be implemented? Or is it just impossible?

Thank you for such a detail reply. Do you know whether or not we could run WinSAT? Because mine just keeps saying WinSAT fail and need to close:(

If they could find a way to present a better virtual graphic card to the Vista OS they could make this work, or a complete implementation of DX10 as a virtual card then this would start working.

Don't hold your breath for the time being.

Ah, I think that's the crux of the problem no, the PD display driver. But on another machine, an iMac, I thought I was able to replace the driver with one from Ati, or maybe that was in Bootcamp, can't remember...here is another related problem:

    http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=31016

In this case, the display driver served up by PD does not support multiple independent displays like it should.

Well, I AM holding my breath; I have one week before class time. I hope my solution does NOT involve using bootcamp. cheers!

    1. Minimize hardware acceleration level in display properties.

Right click on Desktop -> Personalize -> Display Settings -> Advanced
Settings -> Trobleshoot tab. Put hardware acceleration level to zero.

    2. Set Color in Display Settings to 24 bit making hardware acceleration
    set to maximum.
