DVD and MPEG video in Windows/Parallels (previously was: Change Log for new builds?) Is there a link or a downloadable file for a Change Log for new builds for Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac? I'm still using build 5160 because that worked better for me when playing video mpeg files and dvds when under XP - but the later build 5582 did not. It looks like there is a build 5584 but I want to first look at a Change Log before installing. If no such thing, then I'll stick with build 5160.
DVD and MPEG video in Windows/Parallels Well, so far no response to my query about changelogs for Parallels.... Let me instead specifically ask this because this was what I was trying to find out when I was asking about change logs: I'm interested in finding if there were any changes/fixes to new builds for Parallels include whether if anyone can actually play a DVD or a video MPEG file in Windows Media Player when in windows/parallels??? I remember reading a long discussion thread in this forum where something like this was discussed but I can no longer find that thread. Anyways, I can play other videos (like AVI, DivX, MOV, QT, RM, etc.), but I am more interested in playing a DVD movie or MPEG files in Windows Media Player while in windows. (Of course, I can play everything fine when I'm on the mac side of my macbook.) I have to use PowerDVD instead for playing DVDs and MPEGs while in windows. That's fine, but I would like to use Windows Media Player when I'm on the windows/parallels side of my Macbook. I know this works with my particular windows installation because my windows installation was originally from my other laptop where everything worked, but when I migrated a cloned copy of my windows over to my Macbook then it stopped working to play DVDs and MPEGs under Parallels/Windows unless if I used PowerDVD when I'm in windows. I'm still using build 5160 because the later build 5582 also broke PowerDVD for me. I have no idea what will happen with the latest build 5584 (or whatever is the latest build number) or what it will do.
Please, install the latest build 5584. If you will have some errors describe it exactly; it is not good idea just to tell "dont work" or "break". It seems the problem is in absence of necessary codecs, please check it.
it's not codecs. if it was missing codecs, then it would not have worked in Windows Media Player before when i have my same windows mirror cloned configuration working on my other windows laptop. the windows that i installed on my macbook under parallels is an exact cloned copy from my other windows laptop and everything worked there for playing DVD movies and MPEG video files in Windows Media Player with the codecs all installed. for now, please answer this one question: do DVD movies and MPEG video files actually play when using Windows Media Player under build 5584? for now, that is all i need answered. i'm not not too enthused about turning my macbook into a guinea pig to find this out after spending time installing 5582 and then going back to 5160. simple answer on 5160, it didn't work, got frozen window of the DVD video screen on top of the Windows Media Player - when normally that DVD video window would be inside Windows Media Player. "didn't work" and "broke" Windows Media Player. but PowerDVD worked fine with build 5160. second simple answer on 5582, same result (frozen video window on top of player) with Windows Media Player "broken" and now also with PowerDVD "broken" when trying to play a DVD or a MPEG under build 5582. "didn't work" and "broke" both players under build 5582. I'm not hopeful about getting a better result with the current 5584 build. That's why I'm asking if anyone can play a DVD or a MPEG video file when using Windows Media Player under build 5584. i would rather not have to go through the frustration of having to install another build to be disappointed when i've already did enough with going from 5160 to 5582 and back to 5160 where at least PowerDVD works in 5160. since i don't want to repeat the frustration that i previously experienced, i do not want to install build 5584 if no one can tell me they actually can play DVD movies and MPEG video files when using Window Media Player under build 5584. if yes that there is someone out there who has actually specifically used Windows Media Player to play a DVD, then that gives me the answer that i need right now in order to decide to install build 5584 and to further diagnose this further on my end.
Yes. DVD movies and MPEG video files are played without any problems by both Windows Media Player and PowerDVD. Please, install build 5584 and provide next information if you will have the problem: 1) Screenshot with "frozen window of the DVD video screen on top of the Windows Media Player"; 2) Exact Windows's version. You can get it with "winver" command; 3) Exact version of Windows Media Player; 4) Model of your DVD drive. Thank you for information.
