    I migrated the files from my old MacBook to my new MacBook last night (using newly updated Migration Assistant), but the 12Gb winxp.hdd file did not and will not copy-- Parallels is the only application that did not move over correctly. I keep getting an error message (error=0). Can't copy via wifi, can't copy to a USB hard drive to manually move it over. I restarted the computer thinking perhaps something needed refreshing, but that didn't help, either.

    Any suggestions, please? Thanks.

    FYI...using build 5608. Old MacBook is 6 mo's old...new is new Aluminum MacBook.

    This is Finder error not Parallels Desktop
    You cannot copy via USB, as most probably it is formatted as FAT32 (2 gb file limit size)

    Is there a solution for transferring the data? Or do I need to rebuild the Virtual Machine from scratch? And if so, how do I "de-attach" both the copy of Windows XP Pro and Parallels from the old machine so it is on the new machine legally? Thanks.

    Please confirm first where do you transfer , it is not possible to transfer to FAT32

    Yes, the USB 2.0 drive is formatted FAT32.

    FAT32 limitation is 2 GB file, use HPFS file system

    I ended up copy the file through the File Sharing utility. It copied correctly; size matches. But when I start Parallels, it says it can't open the Windows screen because it says the file is corrupted. I then tried to import from the old machine via file sharing but don't seem to be able to do that (I may not be doing this correctly...I'm just guessing what it's looking for). I'm not sure where the problem is...the same file does open correctly on the old machine.

    I'm not finding that folder. Is it possible that's because I've never been able to get Windows to start on this machine?

    What would happen if I simply re-ran the 5608 installer? Is it possible that might solve my problem?

    Thank you for your help.

    No, the problem is causing by winxp.hdd bundle
    Try to search this file in Spotlight , or in file system following the path in error,
    Or you can paste error here I will point where to look at file to perform kb 4680

    Here is the error message:
    ==========
    Virtual machine cannot be started because of the following problem:

    Parallels Desktop is unable to access the virtual hard disk image file /Users/rsnadel2/Documents/Parallels/Microsoft Windows XP/winxp.hdd. The file is corrupted.
    ==========

    As noted above, the file is identical in size and other attributes to the .hdd file on the machine I copied from. The virtual machine works fine on the old machine.

    I followed the instructions, but when I got to the Configuration Editor (step 7), I get the following message:
    =================
    Parallels Desktop is unable to access the virtual hard disk image file /Users/rsnadel2/Documents/Parallels/windows.hdd/winxp.hdd. The file is corrupted.
    =================

    At that point, I can access the Image File area and can navigate to the file but it does not ask anything about converting, and when I am finished clicking OK and try to start Windows, I get this message:
    =================
    Virtual machine cannot be started because of the following problem:

    Parallels Desktop is unable to access the virtual hard disk image file /Users/rsnadel2/Documents/Parallels/windows.hdd/winxp.hdd. The file is corrupted.
    =================

    I've given up trying to repair this migrated version. Instead, I tried to uninstall the version (5608) on my MacBook using the uninstall off the new (5626) dmg. When I tried, it said I didn't have a version installed. So now I've moved every Parallels folder I can find to the Trash and installed 5626. It seems to have installed okay, but will not accept my activation key. Is that because the copy of Parallels on my old MacBook is still active? Is there a way to deactivate that copy, or is there something else going on? Am I going to be required to buy a new Activation Key? I'm perfectly happy removing the copy that's on my old MacBook and transferring the key to my new MacBook version (5626)
