I am using Parallels Desktop for Mac build 3214 on a MacPro with 5GB RAM. I had a Windows XP Pro VM on it for at least a year. It got totally corrupted so I decided the time was right to jump to Vista. I installed the Vista Enterprise version SP1 on Monday. It worked. I got it on my office's network no problem with using the second network port in my Mac Pro.

Yesterday, Vista had a problem and it refused to boot. I figured that since I had not spent much time installing anything on it, I would just start from scratch. So I created a new VM and I installed Vista from the same DVD as I previously used, but now, I have come up against a brick wall getting this Vista VM on my network. How do I do that?

I saw a posting back in late July with a response on August 1st that explained the problem to a T. Unfortunately, the solution doesn't work. When I try to use the tools app in the Parallels folder to set up the CD device, it says it can't find the disc. I tried both the Vista and Parallels discs with the same result. I also don't see why I was able to network this the first time with hardly any effort at all, but now its like pulling teeth.

What am I doing wrong? To reiterate. I have two network ports. I want my Mac OS to use the first port and the Vista VM to use the second port. I have a separate static IP address for both machines. This is on Mac OS X 10.5.5 with all updates and patches installed. Parallels tells me it is also current.

From Devices CD_DVD-select connect image and navigate to Mac HD -Library -Parallels -Tools - vmtools.iso
    1. Connect Parallels Tools CD image (vmtools.iso) to VM. You can find

Parallels Tools CD image at the /Library/Parallels/Tools folder.

    2. In the Windows Vista Start menu, go to Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager and select

Network Adapters -> Parallels Network Adapter in the left panel. Double click it.

    3. Choose Driver -> Update Driver... -> Browse for driver software on your computer. Point the path to your CD.

    4. When Windows asks you what driver to use, you should point to:

    Drivers/Network/RTL8029/Win2000.XP.ME.2003 on your virtual CD-ROM.

Please exchuse this silly question, but how do I do the first step. In the main Parallels menu, the help says to pull down devices to connect the iso image, but all the menu items under "devices" are gray so I cannot select them.
