web help response Hello John, Tx for your response. I copied it in below. Basically it says that the video is wrongly compressed? But its Vista's own example so cant be the problem?? Btw I tried some of my own wmv videos as well, same result. Bart Windows Media Player Error Message Help You've encountered error message C00D1199 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue. Cannot play the file Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons: The file type is not supported by the Player. For a list of file types (formats) that are supported by Windows Media Player, see the table on supported file types in this topic. The file type is supported by the Player, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the Player. Your sound card or sound controller is not configured properly. Try changing the audio output device associated with the Player. To change the audio output device Click the arrow below the Now Playing tab, and then click More Options. Click the Devices tab, and then double-click Speakers. In the Audio device to use box, select a different sound card or sound controller. The file type is supported, but you are trying to play it in a way that is not supported by the Player. For example, you might have tried to drag a DVD file with a .vob extension from a DVD to the Windows Media Player icon. Or you might have tried to open a .vob file by clicking Open on the File menu. You are trying to play one part of a multipart file. Use a newsreader or other program to combine the files, and then try again. Supported file types The following table lists the file types (formats) that are supported by Windows Media Player. If you cannot use a file that is included in this table, the file might have been encoded with a codec that is not supported by Windows Media Player. File type (format) File name extension AU (UNIX) audio files .au and .snd Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF) audio files .aif, .aifc, and .aiff CD audio disc .cda DVD-Video disc .vob JPEG picture file .jpg Macromedia Flash animation file .swf Microsoft Recorded TV Show .dvr-ms MP3 audio files .mp3 and .m3u MPEG video files .mpeg, .mpg, .m1v, .mp2, .mpa, .mpe, .mp2v, and .mpv2 Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) audio files .mid, .midi, and .rmi Windows audio and video files .avi and .wav Windows Media audio and video files .asf, .asx, .wax, .wm, .wma, .wmd, .wmp, .wmv, .wmx, .wpl, and .wvx Windows Media Player skin file .wmz Notes To play DVDs, you must have a DVD-ROM drive and a software or hardware DVD decoder installed on your computer. If you do not have a compatible DVD decoder installed, DVD-related commands, options, and controls do not appear in the Player and you cannot play DVDs. By default, Windows XP does not include a DVD decoder. For more information about DVD decoders for Windows XP, see the DVD Support in Windows XP Web page at the Microsoft Web site. Some, but not all, versions of Windows Vista include a DVD decoder. For more information about DVD decoders for Windows Vista, see the DVD Playback Pack for Windows Vista Web page at the Microsoft Web site. To play .mp2v and .dvr-ms files, you must have a software or hardware DVD decoder installed on your computer. For additional information about .dvr-ms support in Windows XP, see the Microsoft Download Center. For more information on supported file types, in the Microsoft Knowledge Base, see article 316992, "Windows Media Player multimedia file formats." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Technical Details This error might have been triggered by an error in another program or component of Windows. The following information describes the original error. Original Error Code Original Error Message C00D36B4 The data specified for the media type is invalid, inconsistent, or not supported by this object. Additional Assistance For information about obtaining technical support from Microsoft, see the Troubleshooting Windows Media Player page. I suppose there is something with DRM, this problem also occurs with real PC http://forums.techarena.in/media-player/833585.htm http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Media/microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player/2004-06/4612.html - this one describes I suppose the background I suppose this article is the same but points to problems with codecs http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/9series/playererrors.aspx#c00d1199_0x00000000
Hello John, My Parralells is installed on a standard Imac and my Vista Home Premium is newly installed (twice). So no changes to both standard systems. If win media player 11 does not play its own bear.wmv example, my guess is there is something wrong with Parallels in this respect. And it should be possible to reproduce the problem at Parallels lab. If I get no further with this issue my option is to buy Win XP and hope that works with win media player. Have you ever seen that work? Another option might be to try VMware vs Parallels?? But that would be the next step after Win XP trial. Hope you can help a bit more with the Parallels - Vista win media player 11 problem though. Tx Bart
Here is , how I get the WMP to play files In Display settings -Monitor -Advanced settings- Troubleshooting - I set slide bar on third position from the right, and select 24bit colors . After that I was able to play FighterPilot.wmv from WMP11 website, which previously gave the same error MediaCenter cannot play the same file as it requires 128mb of memory
Thanks very much John, This does the trick for my parallels windows media player 11 as well. I would never have found this out on my own. Is this a bug and can we put these settings back to maximum in a future parallels upgrade you think?? I found an update for my parallels (Parallels-Desktop-5608-Mac-en.dmg) but I cant seen to install it. Currently I run parallels 5584. Error report says it doesn't recognise "Parallels-desktop-560"?? Bart
Please download build 5608 following link bellow: http://download.parallels.com/v3/en/GA/Parallels-Desktop-5608-Mac-en.dmg and reinstall Parallels Desktop as described in kb http://kb.parallels.com/en/4790 Please note this is US version, if you are using localized version please download it from http://www.parallels.com
