Hi to all, I'm new to this forum and generally in the mac world. First I tried to find some information using the search tool, but I didn't find nothing at all... So here's my question: I configured parallels to run winxp from the bootcamp partition, and it's all fine, BUT today i bought an external firewire HD and I got this error message: "Sono state trovate più partizioni Windows. La configurazione non è una configurazione Boot Camp standard. Per informazioni su come configurare una virtual machine Parallels con una configurazione Boot Camp non standard su un computer Macintosh, vedere il capitolo Uso dell'installazione Boot Camp Windows XP nella Guida per l'utente di Parallels Desktop per Mac." that is like to say: "Parallels found more than one Windows partition. The configuration is not a Boot camp standard configuration. for information on how to configure a parallels virtual machine with a non standard configuration of boot camp on a mac compter .... let's see the manual" obviously I didn't understood what to do if I disconnect (fisically) the external drive, Parallels works fine, but if i connect again the HD it will be seen by MAC but not by WIN. Any suggestion on how to fix the problem? thanks a lot Alex Excuse my poor english but i'm too lazy to improove it
Hi, As a matter of fact firewire devices are not supported by PD, but you can try to follow this article to solve your problem: http://kb.parallels.com/en/5161
Thanks a lot, but i already did that, my firewire HD it's shared as a folder (and anyway it's don't even needed, because you can drag and drop files between systems) The problem is that I can't even start Parallels if the drive is connected, i need to fisically detach the cable than it will run, I was searching for a solution for this problem. And obviously for the licence problem in Autocad, i read that Parallels team is already working hard on it, and I wait for the solution
I have this problem as well for any HTFS formatted Firewire/USB drive with Parallels while attempting to access the Bootcamp partition. The only workaround that I've found is to disconnect the USB/Firewire drive, open Parallels/Bootcamp, then re-attach the drive later. I will warn you that I have individually had a TON of problems with Bootcamp and Parallels (using Vista though, not XP) to the point that I can no longer boot directly into the Vista partition [blocks boot up because of Activation error] even though I can access it via Parallels [no issues]. I've personally been very disappointed with Parallels in that regard.
In fact i did it today.... i formatted the disk but again in fat32, this because of compatibility reasons (i'm still using both OS on my powerbook). That's simply becuse my mac was not more able to mount the disk if connected with firewire cable (any problem with USB2.0 connection), my home PC wasn't too; so I tryed the format option.... Now my home PC can connect via firewire my Mac still not So I will use it as USB drive, but I'm upset.
