I have successfully set up Quicken 2007 and migrated the data files. I am having trouble activating QuickBooks Plus: Small Business Plus 2005/06. I turned off "Shared Profile" in the VM, but still get a error messages "The parameter is incorrect" and then "Step2". I think my next step is to call Quicken and get an activation number, but they will want me to use my function keys and control keys (to call up a short cut) to input the activation code. How do I get my function keys to mimic a MS OS keyboard? Otherwise Quicken will just tell me that they do not support VM and I be back at square one.
You can use Parallels Desktop - Preferences -Keyboard to set necessary settings. See Parallels Desktop for Mac user guide from http://www.parallels.com/en/download/file/doc/Parallels_Desktop_for_Mac_User_Guide.pdf on page 227
Manual Support Thank you for the reply. I reviewed the manual again. I have not "Enabled Access for Assisted Devices" and I have selected "Swap Cmd/Ctrl". I still can not get the software to engage the shortcut required to enter the activation code. Now please do not ask what that shortcut is, since I have forgotten (it has been awhile). But I do know they will ask to call it out me come Monday when I call them for the activation code. I have tried a sequential test of function keys and ctrl and alt keys and have not been able to call out the activation window. So maybe I am stuck until Monday when I can find out what the short cut is to input the activation code.
I am recalling something similar, as it is with special key combination, Just try to recall if it is CTRL or Shift (I recall CTRL) , and go again to Parallels Desktop -Preferences - Keyboard and change key combination from CTRL to ALT or other, for example for Release Input ()
The key if Ctrl from my memory and it is in the F5 to F10 range. I am being a bit blond, but Ctrl and Alt are both ticked in "Release Input" and Shift and Custom are not ticked. So, are you advising me to just tick Alt?
if key is in range of F8-F10, you can try to hold CTRL key and from Actions- Send keys send corresponding key
No joy with CTRL key and Action/Send Keys. I just dug through some of my old notes from an earlier installation and it may be CTRL & F12 that is the magic key combination.
Could you check following: in System Preferences -Keyboard-Keyboard Shortcuts - change dashboard shortcut to let us say F3, and try to send key
OK, I went into Mac OS Sys Pref and removed the tick for Dashboard (I tried double clicking the short cut and pressing F3 with no joy, all it did was beep at me). Removing the tick for Dashboard did not help.
Unfortunately I am cheap and am running 2005/2006. I have updated t with the Service Pack 2, which is described on that web page. All the activation notes are for more current versions. I will give a call to Quicken tomorrow to verify the short cut they use.
Ok, here the way I tested: CTRL+F12 Start on-screen keyboard from Start -All Programs - Accessories Start Software and click CTRL+ F12
