    Hi,
    I'm just starting to work with Parallels under OSX 10.5 with WinXP as a guest OS. I'm trying to do some OpenGL work but am having some OpenGL driver issues, so I have a few questions I haven't been able to find answers to:

    Who controls the OpenGL driver, Parallels or Windows? In other words, can I install 3rd party drivers or will Parallels freak out? I noticed that the video driver is from Parallels, but does this have anything to do with the OpenGL driver?

    I can do basic OpenGL fine, but am having some problems with OpenGL extensions. In one app, I'm trying to use the framebuffer extensions. The OpenGL extensions string has the framebuffer extension in it, but I get some unexpected behavior. For instance the code:

    GLint fboid = 0;
    glGetIntegerv(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_BINDING_EXT, &fboid);

    always gives me a GL_INVALID_ENUM error despite the fact that it is part of the framebuffer spec and should work since all of the other framebuffer calls work with no problems. Where do I go to get support with this issue? Is it on Parallels side or should I be looking to install the latest Nvidia drivers?

    Hi funklick,

    Parallels is a virtualization solution. Under Windows, it is emulating a basic SVGA video card with experimental support for basic DirectX 8 support. The video driver used is provided by Parallels, and chances are you will not be able to find a third-party driver that will support the emulated video card. If you need to run OpenGL apps under Windows, the better option would be to use Boot Camp. You can make a Boot Camp partition and then access it via Parallels (which I am doing now) for basic applications, but if you need more power (like OpenGL),boot it natively. Good luck!

    Thanks Rich,
    Very helpful info. I've used Boot Camp before but have never heard of accessing it via Parallels. Any links to more info on how to get Boot Camp and Parallels working together?

    cheers!

    It's all in Parallels User Guide ( inside /Applications/Parallels/ ).
