I've had this weird flicker problem in Parallels for a few weeks now. I updated to build 5600 to see if it helped, but it hasn't improved things at all.

The flicker happens with several different applications (Outlook, Word, Acrobat Reader etc), on their own as well as together. It's like there is a 1 second delay in the screen refresh - in that if it happens at the same time as the clock moves forward a minute, the flicker will be between (for example) 09.49 & 09.50. This affects the entire monitor, obviously not just the clock!

I'm using a MacPro 2x2.66GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon, with 6GB RAM running 10.5.3.The graphics card is RadeonX1900. The problem still happens when I am running no additional mac programs, so I can't imagine it's a video memory issue.

I'm using a 2 monitor set up, but with parallels running on one monitor.

My video memory is set to the recommended 16MB, I've tried turning on and off Enable DirectX Shaders & Enable Custom screen resolutions, to no avail. My main memory is set to 2048MB.

The constant flicker is making windows unusable at the moment as it's starting to make me sea-sick. Any suggestions or help would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jan

I have had the same problem. Just installed 5608...hoping this fixes it. I found if I restarted my MAc that the problem went away for a bit only to return again.

    That sounds identical.

I downloaded build 5608 today and haven't had any 'flickering' for the last couple of hours. Hopefully this resolves it.

    Problem worsened

This problem has become a lot worse since updating to 5608 - it has started to affect both screens - see attached partial screenshot.

    Any ideas?

We're still working on it! What program is causing the problem?

I can't point to any one program that causes the problem. Sometimes the problem begin immediately. More often, however, I will be working in Parallels for maybe 30 minutes to an hour and the problem will start. Once it starts, it then becomes impossible to continue working. I have to close out all the way out of Parallels (and sometimes Leopard as well) and restart. At which time the above cycle just begins again.

Paul Schmidt, let us see, such situation can be caused by Memory leak, or by 2 video cards
    1. Try to use one display - check does problem appears
    2. Reinstall Parallels Desktop as in http://kb.parallels.com/en/4790
    3. In profile -logs check system log can you see any problems with Video cards,
    4. Do you have Screen Sharing enabled
    5. Or VNC session
