I am not sure how to fix my hdd. Looks like I had some data corruption. Looking for advice, please.
I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5.3 and Parallels 5608. I had been having funny noises come from my hard drive which likely needed to be replaced. I had a problem waking the machine from sleep and had to do a hard reset to restart the machine. At the time, parallels was open but with the XP Pro VM suspended (just showing the VM overview window).
After rebooting, I started parallels and unsuspended my VM. I saw my windows as I had left them, but the guest OS did not respond. I sent a ctrl-alt-delete and selected task manager. The OS responded with a blank desktop and nothing else. I restarted the VM and got a BSOD with error Stop 0x24. The same BSOD appeared when trying to boot into safe mode.
I cloned my drive, had it replaced by Apple and restored everything back on to the new replacement drive. I booted into windows xp install disc recovery console and performed chkdsk /r, fixboot c and fixmbr. I also attempted to repair the windows installation with the install disk. Did these several times.
Each time I start windows, I see the windows xp splash screen, but after that is just the blue screen seen in attachment (not BSOD). Nothing happens. I reinstalled 5608. I tried to create a new VM using this existing hdd, but got the same vague blue screen.
I was able to create a new vm from scratch and was also able open my backup clone on my firewire drive so I know parallels app is working.
This hdd is corrupt somehow, but I have several days work in various system files (email, quickbooks...) so I wish to save this hdd as opposed to restoring my back up and manually dragging files from the current version to the back up version. I am able to explore the hdd, so it seems most of it is valid.
Suggestions on how to repair this VM? TIA!
