Thank you -- that is a very large hammer. Which seems to have fixed whatever was wrong regarding hal.dll.

I found mention of the Clear option in the User Guide -- but it is in the context of "you are done using your Boot Camp partition in Parallels".

Is there documentation somewhere regarding such as this hal.dll issue?

PS - the first dialog following the Clear mentions that "you will have to Reactivate". Does that mean Windows activation?

Yes, you need to activate Windows , when you boot in Parallels

Thanks John. So far I've not had to re-Activate Windows.

How can I fix the post-Parallels crash problem with hal.dll and Windows refusal to boot?

Do you mean you can now login in Parallels but not in Boot Camp?
or you are unable to both?

Before the Clear I could only log in Boot Camp. After the Clear operation I can also log in Parallels.

But have not been asked to Activate - so far.

Still looking for guidance on recovering from the hal.dll residue of a crash...
